Seeking whom he may devour1/4/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() As a character, he stands out from the rest as having some interest (although I was very curious how he could drop his normal day job so easily and what is the distraction with the woman trying to kiil him?). Some examples "Nobody said anything, pregnantly." - what is this about? - "You'll be in the slammer for the rest of your twatty lives" - are we in the London East End in the 1960s? The plot is OK but completely spoilt by the clumsy language around it.Ī link is established with Adamsberg early in the plot but then not explored until we almost forget about him. I thought the translation was terrible, to the point that I had to look up the person who did it as I was convinced that they could not have been a native English speaker, although it turns out she is. Also more time should have been given to the mountain communities with their beliefs, culture and legends. There is also a huge opportunity missed with the geographical setting - this area is beautiful and the landscape should be a bigger part of the book than it is, had this happened then the atmosphere would have been more appropriate to the plot. At some points the technology is very advanced but then they have difficulty with a mobile which doesn't fit. Oddly, I struggled to place the time setting of the story. Has to be said though that I found it hard to find any level of engagement with the characters - Soliman was just impossible, Watchee was interesting but then behaved out of character. The writing is straight forward which should make it an easy read but I found it took a long time as the language and style is very jarring.Īll through the characters are explained well and they manage to avoid some very stupid plot twists which often happen in this type of book. It’s true! Check out this verse.ġPeter 5:8 - Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. This is a translation so it is difficult to comment on whether some aspects of the book are the fault of the author or the narrator but someone must take the responsiblity. He is actively roaming around at this very moment, seeking whom he may devour. Seeking whom he may devour how to#Satan knows how to hit us where it hurts. Or, it could be Satan trying to discourage us from joyfully serving the Lord and making a difference in this world. It could be to test us for one reason or another. It could be to show others a witness as we “handle” things in a Christlike manner. It could be to strengthen our faith and draw us closer to the Lord. What matters is that everything we go through in life is for a reason. But, you know what? It doesn’t really matter how big or small our problems are. I also realize we are not the only ones experiencing struggles in our lives and, actually, OUR “problems” are very mild compared to some others I’ve heard about. I can’t help but wonder when it will end and when our lives can get back to “normal” again, if there is such a thing. And now, this past week, we have all been sick and stuck inside the house, except for running a few necessary errands. Shortly after that, there were behavior issues to deal with in our children and in myself. If you look back at my previous blog entries, you will see how, a few weeks ago, the fleas made their appearance. It seems one thing after another creeps up to try and discourage us, bring us down, and keep us from accomplishing the goals we have tried to set in place. I have to admit, these past few weeks have NOT been easy weeks for us. ![]()
